Temperature control

Start here for an antique-fridge restoration or freezer-to-keezer build. The appliance must still be able to cool.

1 type

Plug-in temperature controller

For a fridge or freezer that still cools. Choose basic temperature control, Wi-Fi access, or advanced fermentation features to suit your build.

4 shop options
  • KegLand RAPT — advanced temperature control

    William’s Brewing · SKU P40

KegLand RAPT — advanced temperature control

An advanced option with Wi-Fi, temperature history and programmable profiles, useful when the fridge also serves as a fermentation chamber.

    Fit & included parts

A steady serving-temperature setting is sufficient for a kegerator. Remote features use the RAPT portal; manual operation is also supported. William’s lists this U.S. model with 15 A outlets. Verify appliance load and compressor-delay settings; it does not repair a faulty refrigeration system. The seller’s photo shows a regional plug variant; confirm the supplied U.S. outlets before ordering.

  • Inkbird ITC-308S — replaceable probe

    MoreBeer! · SKU FE640

    Inkbird ITC-308S — replaceable probe

MoreBeer’s FE640 listing identifies the ITC-308S: heating/cooling control with a removable, replaceable temperature probe. It has no Wi-Fi.

    Fit & included parts

The S model’s key advantage over the basic ITC-308 is its plug-in probe, which can be replaced without opening the controller. MoreBeer’s description names ITC-308S, though its feature bullets shorten this to ITC-308; confirm the supplied model if the replaceable probe is essential. MoreBeer lists a 1000 W maximum. Check the appliance load and set compressor-delay protection. A failed fridge thermostat that prevents cooling still needs repair.

Beer line & fittings

Beer and CO₂ tubing are collected here. Start with 3/16-inch beer line for a conventional setup; gas-line alternatives are labeled separately. Match every hose to its fittings.

9 types
Before buying: match hose, fittings & clamps

For a typical home kegerator, start with 3/16″ beer line.

Our default: 3/16″ ID × 7/16″ OD beverage-grade vinyl. Both beer-line products below use this size. Choose the length with the calculator. The 1/4″ and 5/16″ beer-line examples are exceptions for systems designed around a larger bore; do not buy them as an upgrade or substitute them at the same length. CO₂ supply hose is a separate choice.

ID is the inside diameter; OD is the outside diameter. Barbs match the hose ID. Push-fit connectors match its OD. The examples below identify specific tubing dimensions, not every hose sold with the same ID.

Before crimping: measure the hose over the installed barb. The clamp must slide over the connection and close within its specified range. Aim near the middle of that range, follow the clamp maker’s closing instructions, and leak-test the finished connection.

Recommended: 3/16″ vinyl · 7/16″ OD · home kegerator beer line

Hose: Coldbreak CLR316-6FT and MoreBeer D1711B: 3/16″ ID × 7/16″ OD (4.76 × 11.11 mm). A useful starting choice for a short home draft run; calculate length before cutting.

Fittings: BNAST-0316 straight beer-nut assembly or BNA90-0316 elbow assembly for compatible beer-thread couplers/shanks. For a ball-lock homebrew keg, KEG700 has a 1/4″ barb that its seller specifically recommends with 3/16″ beer line; the stretched hose end needs its own clamp measurement.

Clamp: Oetiker 16700010, 13.3 mm nominal, 10.8–13.3 mm range is a common draft-line candidate. MoreBeer H1002 is a KegLand alternative listed for 7/16″ OD tubing, with a smaller 10.5–12.5 mm range. Choose by the assembled diameter; these are not identical clamps.

Exception: 1/4″ vinyl · 1/2″ OD · lower-resistance beer runs

Hose: the thick-wall draft-line example is 1/4″ ID × 1/2″ OD (6.35 × 12.70 mm), as listed in Taprite’s beverage tubing catalog. It needs more length than 3/16″ vinyl to provide the same resistance.

Fittings: BNAST-0014, the 1/4″-barb beer-nut assembly, for compatible couplers/shanks. KEG700’s 1/4″ beverage barb is another connection option for ball-lock kegs.

Clamp: Oetiker 16700013, 14.5 mm nominal, 12.0–14.5 mm range. Confirm the hose-over-barb measurement. A thin-wall 1/4″ hose can require a different clamp.

Exception: 5/16″ vinyl · 9/16″ OD · larger-bore beer runs

Hose: Coldbreak’s 5/16″ beverage tubing is 5/16″ ID × 9/16″ OD (7.94 × 14.29 mm). Its lower resistance generally requires a longer beer run; it is not a straight swap for the same length of 3/16″ line.

Fittings: BNAST-0516, the 5/16″-barb beer-nut assembly. The standard Coldbreak D-COUPLER also comes with 5/16″ tailpieces.

Clamp: Oetiker 16700016, 15.7 mm nominal, 13.2–15.7 mm range is a candidate on a matching barb. An expanded connection may need 16700017, 17.0 mm nominal, 14.5–17.0 mm range. Measure before choosing.

5/16″ Ultra Barrier Gas · nominal 9/16″ OD · CO₂ supply

Hose: MoreBeer TUB411A is red-striped EJ Beverage Ultra Barrier Gas. The manufacturer lists its standard BFXR 5-9 version at nominal 5/16″ ID × 9/16″ OD. MoreBeer omits the OD and manufacturer code, so confirm the supplied hose matches that specification.

Fittings: the 5/16″ barbs on Coldbreak’s 5022-60 regulator, D-COUPLER gas tailpiece, and MoreBeer D1800 manifold match this nominal hose size. KEG710 has a 1/4″ barb: use matching gas-rated hose or a correctly sized disconnect/fitting instead of trying to close the gap with a tighter clamp.

Clamp: consider the 15.7 mm Oetiker range above only after confirming the hose and assembled OD. This gas hose is not the picker’s “5/16″ vinyl” beer-line material.

Alternative system: EVA Barrier · verify metric ID & OD · push-fit draft connections

Hose: KegLand offers 4 mm ID × 8 mm OD and 5 mm ID × 8 mm OD EVABarrier. These are different bores; neither is exactly 3/16″. The calculator’s “3/16″ EVA Barrier” preset is an approximate resistance preset, not a product specification or a fit guarantee.

Fittings: DUO106 / KegLand KL06880 connects 8 mm OD tubing to a compatible 1/4″ male-flare disconnect, such as KEG722. It does not attach to a hose barb or a beer-nut thread. This adapter uses no separate flare washer; follow its installation instructions.

Clamp: none at the Duotight push-fit connection. Cut square and fully insert the tube. If using barbs instead, obtain the tubing maker’s fitting guidance and size a clamp from that actual assembly.

Why stepless ear clamps instead of ordinary worm-drive hose clamps?

On small, soft beer and gas hoses, a stepless ear clamp provides a smooth inner band and compression around the full circumference. It also leaves a compact connection without a projecting screw housing.

The common perforated worm-drive clamp sold at auto-parts stores can bite into soft tubing, and its housing can concentrate pressure on one side, especially when the clamp is oversized. That can distort the hose and create a leak path.

This is about clamp design and sizing, not where you buy it. A correctly sized smooth-band worm-drive clamp can work and is reusable. Ear clamps need a proper pincer and must be replaced after removal; they cannot compensate for a mismatched hose or barb.

Dimension & fitting sources

Checked September 2026: Coldbreak 3/16″ line, Taprite tubing catalog, EJ Beverage gas tubing sheet, Oetiker sizes, and Oetiker StepLess design. Product links above identify the fitting variants. Clamp fit still depends on your assembled connection.

  • 15.7 mm Ear Clamps — 100 Pack

    Amazon · SKU 16700016

    15.7 mm Ear Clamps — 100 Pack

Bulk option for measured connections on 9/16″ OD hose. Clamp range: 13.2–15.7 mm.

    Fit & included parts

A candidate for matching 5/16″ gas hose and barbs, or larger-bore beer systems—not standard 3/16″ beer line. Confirm the actual hose OD over its fitting; some expanded ends need a larger clamp. One hundred clamps is more than most single builds need. Pincer sold separately.

    Fit & included parts

Unplug the fridge and verify the entire drilling path is clear of refrigerant lines and wiring before making a pilot hole; do not assume a sidewall is clear. Drill a pilot hole through the fridge door to align both openings, then cut with the 15/16-inch hole saw from the outside and inside, removing the foam between them. Cut each skin separately rather than trying to reach through the whole door with this shallow cutter. Confirm the hole diameter suits your shank.

PLAN THE WHOLE BUILD

One beer path.
Parts that fit together.

Beer travels from the keg coupler through the beer line to the shank and faucet. Match the line’s inside diameter to the tailpiece barb, and its outside diameter to the clamp range.

Choose a tower or a through-panel faucet arrangement. Check what each kit includes before ordering separate faucets, nuts, and washers.

You will also need a suitable fridge or freezer, compatible keg, secured CO₂ cylinder, gas-rated line, and correctly sized clamps. This is a parts guide, not a complete build kit. The D-system coupler is for compatible commercial kegs; ball-lock homebrew kegs use different connections.
